Why was the Future Science Teachers program created?
The College of Letters and Science has created the Future Science Teachers program (FST) to produce the best possible future science teachers for high schools. In the last ten years a great deal of research has been done on how students learn science most effectively, and this knowledge has been used to design the special classes for students in the FST program.
Welcome Letter from the Governor of the State of California and the President of the University of California.
Why should I enter the FST program?
After two years in the FST program, you will be well prepared to either continue on in the Natural Sciences major (http://naturalsciences.ucdavis.edu) to become teachers as part of CalTeach or else to move into one of the standard science majors. In either case, you will be well ahead of your classmates not in FST.
For what majors will I be prepared by the FST program?
After two full years in the program you can transfer to any program in the Biological Sciences major, receive an AB in Geology or Chemistry or a BS in Natural Sciences. We are currently reviewing options that would allow you to receive a degree in Physics and these decisions should be made within a few months. If you are seriously considering Physics, sign up for Math 21A and also attend the Physics 98 class.
